Gardener Assistant

Fort Garland, CO

Dates of Employment: May 2025 – October 2025

Employment Terms: Seasonal

Expected Hours: 40 hours per week

Pay: $17.00 per hour based on experience

Job Purpose: The Gardener Assistant is responsible for working with the Ranch Garden Lead in the maintenance of the Ranch Garden and all flowers surrounding Ranch buildings. This individual will need to work independently and collaboratively with the garden lead in the planting, growing, harvesting and the end of season shut down. Our ideal candidate is an experienced gardener who possesses excellent attention to detail, a passion for vegetables and fruits, as well as strong interpersonal skills.

  • Grow and harvest food crops
  • Maintain garden aesthetics to company standards
  • Propagate vegetables from seed 
  • Upkeep all flowers around the Lodge
  • Assist and manage spreadsheets for crop and seed inventory (as needed)
  • Assist maintenance with ornamental gardening tasks or propagation tasks (as needed)
  • Use tools, materials, and other equipment properly and safely
  • Ability to work independently and part of a team
  • Communicate with guests about our garden to table program.
  • Perform other Ranch duties as assigned

Knowledge: Understanding of garden upkeep, needs of plant varieties, fertilization schedule, plant rotation, etc. 

Skill: Proficiency in computer software programs, including Word, Excel, and Outlook

Ability: Attention to detail in the landscape environment, strong aesthetic sensibility, prioritizes and plans work activities, uses time efficiently, identifies and resolves problems in a timely manner

Education: Degree/Certificate in Landscape Horticulture or related field (preferred)

Experience: 2+ years of horticultural experience with a focus on growing and harvesting food crops.

Work Environment: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; outside weather conditions and summer heat. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

Physical Activities: The employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, or crouch. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 45 pounds and occasionally move up to 75 pounds using a wheelbarrow or wheeled cart.
